Overview

Be it a broken leg, paralysis, amputation or even a birth defect, Gift of the Givers donates wheelchairs on an ad-hoc basis to individuals, hospitals and schools, on request. One's quality of life is instantly improved when they're able to move around freely and the load on caregivers is lessened substantially.

Rev NK Vilakazi and the congregation thanked Gift of the Givers for the new wheelchair for Mrs Betty Malehe. She is staying with her husband, daughter and two grand children. She suffered a stroke and  cannot walk. Betty relies on her daughter to collect her medication.

16 year old Yonela Masele was given a wheelchair today by Gift of the Givers. Yonela has Tourette syndrome that affects the central nervous system and causes chronic constant jerking and twitching of the body. Six wheelchairs were handed over to recipients in Maphumulo:
 
1. Luthuli Siphiwe, has suffered a stroke.
2. Nxumalo Dolly, is disabled.
3. Ndlovu Mazondi, has a problem with her spine.
4. Ncamsile Mbeje, was in an accident.
5. Sibiya Mangwane, has suffered a stroke.
6. Nkosinathi Nxumalo, was in an accident.

April 2018 - Gogo Mthalane

Gogo Mthalane from Smero in Edendale received a wheelchair from the Gift of the Givers team. Gogo suffers with diabetes and subsequently had her leg amputated. Regular visits to the clinic was a nightmare for both her family and herself as they battled to carry her, with her plastic chair, in and out of taxis.

Amanda in Dambuza

Gift of the Givers delivers a new wheelchair to Henryville Primary School on Dambuza. A very special Grade 7 learner waited patiently as her gift was assembled. This new wheelchair will ease the load for both her mother and classmates who carried Amanda daily on their backs to and from school. Amanda's dignity can be restored.

Trey Ogle, a 15 in Pietermaritzburg was in desperate need of a wheelchair which Gift of the Givers donated to him. The teenager has Downs Syndrome and is now too old to attend the local special needs institutions and has to be placed in a day care facility.

Cloetesville Community

Cloetesville Community

On 5 July 2011, 1000 people from the Cloetesville community were fed soup and bread at the Cloetesville Town Hall in Stellenbosch. They also received the following items:

Michelle Naran, Gauteng

Michelle Naran from Gauteng had a hip operation 3 years  ago but sadly took a fall 2 weeks ago which resulted in 3 of the screws falling out.She was unable to walk and moved around on an office chair seen in the pictures below.

Michelle lives with her mom (93) and uncle (74) whom she took care of before the incident.

1. Frances Mthembu (58) lost his leg after a car accident in 2007. He couldn’t contain his happiness and wept with tears of joy when he received his wheelchair.

2. Affectionately known as Gogo Ndlovu, the 76 year old from Ndwendwe received her wheelchair from Gift of the Givers after having to share a wheelchair with her neighbour for clinic visits and collections of grant.

Gift of the Givers with SABC Foundation donated a wheelchair to 3 year old, Imaan Dearham, from Minnebron in Brakpan.

Imaan was diagnosed with Brain Cancer when she was only 3 months old and sadly lost her left eye after living in a comma for a month. Shortly after she lost vision in her other eye and at 8 months old she was put on chemo therapy with no success.
