11/12/2017 - Fire in Chicago, Paarl

Gift of the Givers distributes 450 food parcels and blankets, bulk hygiene products, clothing and kitchen utensils to fire victims of Chicago in Paarl East. More than 400 people were left homeless after 56 flats and 48 informal homes caught alight.

On hand to receive the aid was Drakenstein Executive Mayor, Mr Conrad Poole, who was on sick leave but wanted to personally thank the Gift of the Givers team for the assistance.

18/09/2017 - Fire in Jumpers Informal Settlement

120 shacks burnt down at Jumpers Informal Settlement in Gowie Street, Cleveland. 300 people were affected without any injuries reported.
Gift of the Givers delivered 300 blankets within 90 minutes of fire. Further aid to follow once needs assessment is complete.

17/06/2017 - Fire in Uitsig

Gift of the Givers responds to calls for assistance to the community of Uitsig where 38 informal dwellings were destroyed by a fire that displaced 150 people.

Gift of the Givers distributed 150 blankets and 80 mattresses to the fire victims.

Gift of the Givers distributed 1000 cans of juice and biscuits to the firemen and rescue teams who battled all day and night to douse the fire in Durban.

01/03/2017 - Fire in Blackburn Informal Settlement

Gift of the Givers delivered much needed relief aid to 40 families in Blackburn informal settlement in Mount Edgecombe. Their homes were completely destroyed by a fire. The aid delivered was:
  • 40 Food Parcels
  • 40 GOTG Blankets
  • 40 The Foschini Group Blankets
  • 40 Mattresses
  • 24 Personal Hygiene Packs

05/07/2017 - Cape York Building

On Wednesday, the Cape York Building in Nugget Street, Johannesburg, was engulfed in huge flames resulting in 7 fatalities. The building was declared unsafe for residential purposes and victims were relocated to Wembly Stadium in Turfontein. The PDMC and City of JHB Disaster Management requested Gift of the Givers assistance.

09/06/2017 - Storms in Cape Town

Gift of the Givers has begun its response to the recent storms in Cape Town and surrounds.

Gift of the Givers begins in Maitland with the distribution of 200 Shoprite-Checkers blankets to residents of informal shelters which have flooded and were damaged during the storm.
