Gift of the Givers in partnership with Shoprite hand over 1000 food parcels to the fire victims in Knysna.The recipient's were very happy and said that this parcel brings with it a sprinkle of Christmas cheer.

Yesterday, 16 November 2017, Gift of the Givers visited the bees rescued in June of this year during our Knysna fire response. And what a gift it was to see that they’re not only thriving but 3 times the size they were since we first rescued them.

With a deep respect for the honeybee, Dr Sooliman carefully transfers these invaluable creatures to a new hive.

Rebuilding Nick's Home in Knysna

Nick was very excited when we started digging the tranches of his two bedroom home after the fire in Knysna destroyed the house that he and his family was staying in for the pass 33 years. He was overjoyed and the building of the house gave him new hope.

GOTG Prepares for Housing Reconstruction in Knysna

The latest updates confirm that about 1070 houses were damaged to varrying degrees or totally destroyed in the Knysna fire of 7 June; of these around 700 were uninsured in rural, farm, central areas and in informal settlements. Family of 4 Receives Aid
#Knysnafire Supplies to a family of four who rent a small house and workshop in the forest area. They evacuated with four adults and three large dogs in the car and their cat in the boot. The workshop was destroyed - a lifetime collection of tools for electronic repairs. No insurance and now no tools. The daughter works for the farmer so this family is going to have a very hard time getting back

Presently, we are actively providing food and medical supplies to many pet shelters in Knysna, George, Plettenberg Bay, Port Elizabeth and Uitenhage. Our bee rehabilitation project has commenced. We now have an additional request for horse and livestock feed. The Knysna Fire aggravated the existing drought which destroyed substantial hectares of grazing land. For the sake of the animals the oversized bales were even hauled on the rooftop of a recipient's vehicle. Unconventional, but the Eksteenfontein recipients were determined to keep their animals fed and warm this winter.

One of our recipients, Mr Malungile, contacted us to say he is now a rich man. His goats are going to be well taken care of in the cold.

Lucas and Family Lose Their Home

Food, water and clothing donated to Lucas and his family, and Adeline and her family. They both lost everything in the #Knysnafire Both work as nurses at the Epilepsy Centre.

The area where Lucas and Adeline's homes were is the only part of that particular township which burned.

GOTG to Rehabilitate Beehives in Knysna
The fire in Knysna took its toll on people, homes, businesses, pets, horses, livestock, economy, environment and on BEES. More than 300 beehives were destroyed; each hive holds roughly 60 000 bees. Those bees that survived are traumatised and hungry. They are in search of a hive and forage to survive.


The Cape bee is unique. She is the only honeybee in the world that can create a laying worker

It commenced by diverting a 32 ton truck laden with water for Cape Town, followed by an advanced team to assess the situation, arrange logistics, transport, find a base and arrange distribution.
