Gift of the Givers Intervenes in Adelaide. Northern and Eastern Cape in serious trouble.

The drought situation in Adelaide is catastrophic: Adelaide Dam is empty, boreholes are running dry, no water feeds into taps, animals are dying, citrus fruit harvesting is six weeks delayed already, farm workers are losing jobs, poverty and hunger is spreading exponentially and sheep are deserting their lambs as they don't have the nutritional strength to feed them.

Gift of the Givers teams are on site today to expand our intervention in Adelaide. We have drilled five boreholes for the municipality producing 1.5 million litres per day but had to control and reduce output as the underground water reserves are dropping rapidly. We had drilled another 7 boreholes to benefit farmers. On Friday our water tankers were on site to provide additional water. It was at this time that our teams heard the feeble cry of two newborn lambs abandoned by their mother's under very trying circumstances.

Gift of the Givers is still active in Makhanda, have assisted in Craddock, Graaff Reinet, Aliwal North, Tarkastad, Ceres, Swellendam, Prins Albert and Nanaga.

Equally in crisis is the Northern Cape with huge losses in animals, jobs and income. The stress is taking a huge toll in both provinces on established and emerging farmers as well as on farm workers. Gift of the Givers is now receiving requests for food aid not only for farm workers but even for the farmers and their families. Individuals cannot pay electricity accounts, school fees and for other life's essentials. This is indeed a tragic state of affairs. Fodder, transport, food, water and basic necessities are urgently required for these two provinces.

Gift of the Givers has delivered R200 million in drought relief since June 2017 in large areas of Northern, Eastern, Southern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal. This is a special request for government, corporates, high net worth individuals, the public, media and crowd funding platforms to intervene urgently to save what's left and turn the situation around. We as South Africans need to hold hands together to lift our people in a dignified manner for our collective prosperity. Please see pictures and video on our Facebook page.
